Manage your daily work in My Tasks

Finley places a checkmark on a daily task checklist beside a navy desk clock.

Use My Tasks to review assigned project work across clients, update responsibility and deadlines, and record the next action without opening every project.

Before you start

  • Sign in to Finley and ensure the relevant project tasks have been assigned to you.

  • Know which client work needs attention and which tasks can be reassigned under your practice's process.

1. Check whose tasks you are viewing

Open Projects and select My Tasks in the Projects menu. The user selector normally starts with your account. Confirm the selected name before reviewing or changing tasks. Where other practice users appear in the selector, choose a colleague to review that person's assigned work.

2. Narrow the list

Use Search by client and the status, stage and priority filters to focus on the work you need. For example, review Waiting on client tasks before preparing follow-up requests, or select High priority to review urgent work. Use Page size and Previous or Next to inspect more results. Reset filters when moving to a different review so that older selections do not hide relevant tasks.

3. Read the task in context

Check Client, Project, Subject, Priority, Due Date, Assigned To and Status in the row. Select the client, project or subject link to open its project. For a short update to the task brief, use the pencil icon labelled Edit description for that task instead. Read the existing instructions before changing them.

4. Update the next action

Change Priority, Due Date, Assigned To or Status directly in the row. Each edit saves when you change the control; there is no separate save button for these fields. Use a status that describes the actual work, such as Working on it, Waiting on client or Stuck. Select Done when the task has been completed and checked. If you reassign the task, it may leave the currently selected user's list.

5. Record a clear handover

Use the comment icon to read the discussion. Enter a concise update in Add a comment and select Add. State what is outstanding, who will act and the agreed date where relevant. To revise the task's instructions, open the description editor, update the text and select Save Description. Choose Cancel to close that editor without saving the description.

6. Check the result

Confirm the row now shows the intended assignment, date and status and that the comment appears. If an edit removes a task from a filtered view, change the filter or selected user and locate it again. Open the project when you need its wider task list, project-level details or task files.

Check before you finish

  • You reviewed the intended person's tasks and cleared filters before concluding that nothing is outstanding.

  • Important changes remain after reopening the task or project, with no save error displayed.

  • A completed task is marked Done and any handover comment clearly identifies the next action.

If something does not work

  • No tasks assigned: check the selected user, client search, status, stage and priority. This view can be empty because of filters, even when tasks exist.

  • A task vanished after an edit: it may no longer match the selected assignee or status. Review the destination user's tasks or open the project.

  • An inline change reverts or an error appears: inspect the current value before retrying. The page restores the earlier row after a failed update.

  • Need to create a task or attach a task file: open the relevant project and use its task controls.
